Scripture: Matthew 28:5-7
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” This is my message for you.
Thought for the Day: In my sermon on Easter, I shared a quote that resonated with a number of folks. It was from Peter Marshall, the respected preacher at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC (1937 – 1947) and the Chaplain to the US Senate on two occasions. Marshall said, “The stone was rolled away from the door of the tomb, not to permit Christ to come out, but to enable the disciples to go in.” Faith and discipleship start when someone provides a witness to us, a metaphorical invitation to enter the tomb and see where Jesus once lay. As we grow in our relationship with the resurrected Christ, we are invited to provide a witness to others, to provide guidance to those who desire to glimpse into the cavern of death for themselves – to discover for how death has been overcome. Without that first glance into the tomb, where would we be today?
Prayer: I give you thanks, O Lord, for all the witnesses to the Good News of resurrection who have helped to guide and nurture me in my own witness to that glorious message. Amen.
