Scripture: Matthew 21:1-3
When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, just say this, ‘The Lord needs them.’ And he will send them immediately.”
Thought for the Day: A Chinese Proverb says: “To get through the hardest journey we need to take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping.” I was think of these words as I was reading the Palm Sunday text from Matthew’s Gospel. Whether Jesus knew exactly how things were going to go in the final week of his life or not (a theological question with plenty of opinions), he had to have known it wasn’t going to go well. The emotional torment in these days must have been excruciating, yet he continued to organize and move things forward. He was not going to allow threats or danger to slow his walk of faithfulness. Too often we allow the destination to intimidate us, when we should only be concerned about remaining faithfully committed to the next step forward.
Prayer: Keep my feet to the path, O Gracious Guide, as I strive to be faithful along this journey with Christ. Though he will go from cheers to jeers, let me continue to be his committed follower. Amen.
