Scripture: Luke 23:44-46
It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Having said this, he breathed his last.
Thought for the Day: This is an incredibly dramatic moment. In fact, it would make for an excellent movie. Oh wait! It has been depicted in numerous movies, but in almost all of them, they missed what makes this moment so dramatic. We try to over play it, and the movies add their gripping music and awe-inspiring backdrop. Instead, we need to remember the death of Jesus was that of a criminal, an insurrectionist. Dozens of these were done every day (when the Romans were wanting to make a point, 100’s were crucified in a single day), and the followers of this revolutionary leader, were no where to be found. It was a lonely, ordinary and forgettable happening in the eyes of everyone…except One.
Prayer: Love embodied in the face of hate and violence is often overlooked by everyone except you, my gracious King. Amen.
