Scripture: Zechariah 10:6
I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back because I have compassion on them, and they shall be as though I had not rejected them; for I am the Lord their God and I will answer them.
Thought for the Day: God’s compassion comes as an answer to prayer, and in many ways, I believe God’s prayer for us is that we show compassion to one another. It was the Dalai Lama who said, “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” Looking around, it sure appears as if humanity tries to live without these necessities, and some people are actually able to do it in the short term. It is a little survival of the fittest, but what we miss is just how dependent we truly are. By the time you read this devotional, how many other human beings have you been dependent upon directly or indirectly. If we really think about it, the number is staggering. Compassion begins with the realization of our interdependence as a species. My true health is connected very much to your health as a human being, and so whatever I can do to make your life healthier will have positive repercussions for the sake of others…including myself.
Prayer: O Lord our God, we are mindful of your compassion that response to our requests, and for the sake of so many others, may our compassion respond to their requests. Amen.
