Scripture: Proverb 14:23
In all toil there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday I was introduced to something in the human body that I had never known before. As I put my feet on the floor first thing in the morning, I discovered a muscle that runs along the backside of the leg, just a little bit toward the inside of the leg. On Monday (my day off), I worked out in the yard for a few too many hours. At the time I only would have described a feeling of exhaustion, but on Tuesday morning, I had a different word that is probably not appropriate for print. I remember an uncle who would say, “Sore muscles are a sign of a content heart.” I think I could do with a little less contentment if it might reduce the tenderness and discomfort I am feeling.
The Proverbs were vehicles of generalized truth, and in most situations, people nodded in agreement as they heard very succinct certitudes. Does that mean that these Proverbs are always right? The Hebrew word translated as toil is `etseb. It literally means to hurt or to feel displeasure. Clearly, I felt considerable displeasure the day after my yard-improving escapades. Yet my pain was not a direct correlation to the product. Might I suggest that had I not been so stubborn when it came to seeking help – or – had I followed the clear instructions of my doctor not to lift more than 30lbs – or – had I lifted correctly as demonstrated by my physical therapist, I might have less pain…and even more to show for it.
The Proverbs are beautiful vehicles of generalized truth, but their pithiness does not automatically equate with universality. Use the Proverbs, but do not impose them on every circumstance that appears to be similar in nature. I call it Proverberation, the faulty assumption that there is a Proverb that will flawlessly fit every situation.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful advice given through proverbial wisdom. Allow it to reveal profound commonsense, while never assuming it can define and enhance every situation. Amen.

Sorry about the pain[?] Hope its not the sciatic nerve?
All is good… improving each day.
