Scripture: Acts 9:31 (the Message)
Things calmed down after that and the church had smooth sailing for a while. All over the country – Judea, Samaria, Galilee – the church grew. They were permeated with a deep sense of reverence for God. The Holy Spirit was with them, strengthening them. They prospered wonderfully.
Thought for the Day: A Congregational Pastor, an Episcopal Priest, a Lutheran Clergy Person and a Disciples of Christ minister went into a restaurant. The punchline of this joke is hilarious! Actually, it is not a joke but my lunch experience yesterday (though we did laugh plenty of times). I treasure the opportunities I have to sit down with these three other highly talented clergy for lunch and conversation. It is exciting to hear how other churches in our area are dreaming life changing, community altering dreams. With all the dreaded talk about church decline, I left my lunch invigorated and joyful about what is happening and what will happen in our community. As one of our denominational founders said years ago, “We are Christians only, but not the only Christians.” As we Dare to Dream at Cypress Creek Christian Church, let us never be afraid of seeking partners outside of our congregation for the realization of that dream.
Prayer: Though I love my church, O Lord, it is not the only church doing wonderful ministry. I pray for other congregations, and where we can come together to demonstrate the unity of your one church, may it be so. Amen.
See You Sunday!
