Scripture: 1 John 3:17-18
How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.
Thought for the Day: Nikolai Berdyaev said, “The question of bread for myself is a material question, but the question of bread for my neighbor is a spiritual question.” How we treat our neighbor and how we care for the hungry is a matter of spiritual integrity. Too often people have turned this idea around and made faith entirely about the spirit, while ignoring issues of physical need. But if we are going to love in truth and action, we must see the spirit come alive in tangible expressions. When we do so, the spirit is blessed and we find ourselves closer to God because we have mirrored God in our actions. The line between what is spiritual and what is material needs to be removed, and people of faith need to simply live the life of faith which, guided by the spirit, is manifest in our daily existence.
Prayer: Lord, may my love expressed to you be seen with bread in my neighbor’s hand. Amen.
