Scripture: Luke 14:10
But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, “Friend, move up higher”; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
Thought for the Day: This morning during worship, we will talk about making ourselves more fully available to the Spirit who desires to reside within us. It begins, according to this parable, with us taking the lowest place. For the next seven days, you will be invited to seek God through humble and purposeful prayer, meditation and reflection. This is our Spiritual Boot Camp, to kick start our connection with God. Others in the church and the web will be doing it alongside you. The devotionals found on my blog, on Facebook or delivered by email (go to pastorfrogge.net if you would like to receive them by email) will increase from daily to multi-daily. No single thought will be more than a couple minutes, but the hope is that these regular calls to prayer will begin to create a new habit, a more developed routine of conversing with God. And what better day to begin then on Pentecost Sunday, the day the Spirit came upon and infused those first disciples. May this first week of Pentecost be for us a time in which our spiritual growth gets a needed boost of encouragement that will lead to a more consistent connection with God.
Prayer: Creator God, we appreciate how we can come before you no matter where we are in our spiritual journey. Novice or sage or somewhere in between, you desire for all of us to connect to you, and to make the teachings of Jesus a more consistent part of our lives. On this Pentecost Sunday, may the Spirit that has brought forth life in the past, be the agent by which new life is brought forth from us. Invite us – encourage us – teach us – shape us… for we desire to make Jesus visible in our flesh, and in doing so, make him visible for all the world to see. We ask these words in the name of the One who gifts us with the Advocate of grace. Amen.
