Scripture: 1st Peter 1:21
Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God.
Thought for the Day: Recycling an old Devotional:
Some of the most powerful voices of the faith come from those places where injustice and suffering are so great. I was recently rereading the book, “Cry Justice,” which is a collection of thoughts and readings from the time when South Africa was under the racist rule of Apartheid. John de Gruchy writes, “The Christian life is one of hoping against hope. The Christian refuses to accept that things need be as they are: that there are no further possibilities; that all is ultimately meaningless; that there is no point to the struggle for what is right and just. The Christian is fully aware of the sinful brokenness of the human community, therefore Christian hope is not optimism, it is not living in an unrealistic world of wishful thinking. But despite so much evident to the contrary, the Christian refuses to surrender hope and become cynical about the future of the world, precisely because it is God’s world.”
Prayer: Kind and Generous God, when everyone seems to have given-up and things appear to be falling apart, allow me to find strength in your hopeful future. Amen.
