Scripture: Genesis 3:24
The Lord God drove out the man; and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a sword flaming and turning to guard the way to the tree of life.
Thought for the Day: It’s interesting how the language of being ‘east’ is more than a direction in the book of Genesis. The brokenness of the world is symbolized by humanity being ‘east’ of Eden. We stand outside of paradise, and our eastward movement is our intentional shift further and further away from God and God’s hope for humanity. Of course, repentance means to turn around, and the salvation story is God inviting those of us headed east to turn around and begin the return journey to paradise. The world needs more people who have made the turn and are living the lives of those who are following God’s invitation to paradise.
Prayer: Bring into my vision the paradise of your grace, O Lord, so I might redirect my life toward you and the existence you have intended for all humanity. Amen.
