Scripture: Proverbs 18:12 (the Message)
Pride first, then the crash, but humility is precursor to honor.
Thought for the Day: Gary Zukav has always been an interesting figure to me. His life story is fascinating, and his take on spiritual matters should be a part of the broader conversations of faith, spirituality and what it means to be human. Zukav wrote:
An authentically empowered person is humble. This does not mean the false humility of one who stoops to be with those who are below him or her. It is the inclusiveness of one who responds to the beauty of each soul…It is the harmlessness of one who treasures, honors, and reveres life in all its forms.
Arrogance remains a very real and destructive power within the world, and often it finds its way into my life (I won’t speak for anyone else) in very subtle ways that might even appear to be pity or charity. The humility I strive for would not be named as humility. At no point do I intentionally lower myself to be with those people. Instead, I desire to live a life that respectfully sees all humanity (and creation) at the level God intended from the beginning… a level of equality and “inclusiveness” (using the language of Zukav). But this desire is going to take a lot of work, and that is where the spirit’s empowering gift is absolutely essential.
Prayer: A lot of work to do, God. Teach me, show me, empower me and then encourage me. This I pray in the name of the beautiful example, Jesus. Amen.
