Scripture: Genesis 1:24-25
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.
Thought for the Day: Good! That’s my sons favorite word. “How was school today?” “Good…” “How’s your new video game?” “Good…” I’ve come to realize that his answer has very little to do with how things really are and more to do with the fact that he really doesn’t want to be bothered with any more questions. It is a nice, middle of the road, answer that doesn’t need further clarification. In the first creation account found in Genesis 1, God responds to each step in creation with the word ‘good’ (towb in the Hebrew). Though I can’t say for sure, I’m pretty certain it wasn’t God’s way of generically responding in hopes that there would be no other questions. It is a word that implies value, but not in the sense of someone asking, “How much can I pay for that?” It is the divine voice announcing that this thing, just created, has an intrinsic value simply because God said so. It is interesting that God declares six separate times that things are good, but in Genesis 1:31, God will declare ‘everything’ that was made as very good. It’s as if God is saying that each component has intrinsic value, but together, the value is exceedingly great.
Prayer: Help me to pause, O Creator God, and see how all things have value beyond what I can get out of them. They are of value simply because of who you are as the creative force behind it all. Amen.

This topic for today once again proves how little I truly understand about the glory of God and what he has created.
