Scripture: Deuteronomy 10:17-19
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who is not partial and takes no bribe, who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and who loves the strangers, providing them food and clothing. You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Thought for the Day: The Lord God executes justice for those who have been forgotten, abused and mistreated. The word execute is the same word we find numerous times in the first creation story of Genesis. For example – in Genesis 1:7, it reads that God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. The word made is `asah in the Hebrew, the same word we translate in Deuteronomy as execute. It describes something like the making of bread that requires mixing and kneading and forming. To be done right, it is going to take a hands-on approach. As the scripture indicates, God provides all the tools for justice: love, security, food and clothing. The problem is distribution, and that is where you and I are called to act — to use our hands and hearts, our words and wisdom, our gifts and insights, to bring God’s justice to all.
This coming weekend (Saturday and Sunday), Chris Baker is going to be with us to talk about a ministry in which a tool of justice is brought to those in need. At first glance, tattooing may not sound like a tool of justice, but in the hands of one who has a heart for those who have suffered in Human Trafficking, it is a divinely empowered instrument of justice. What gift do you have that could help bring justice to children, women and men caught in the horrific web of Human Trafficking?
Prayer: Whatever I have, whatever I am, please use it to your glory, O God of Justice. Amen.
Come and hear Chris…
