Scripture: Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Thought for the Day: Like all of you, the news from last night seems surreal. The murder of any human being is tragic, but the number of people killed and the ages of some of the victims leave a greater sense of emptiness and despair… even for those of us who did not know the family. We feel empathy, yet the senselessness leaves us without the capacity to find meaning or even a meaningful response. It is in this moment that we turn to our apostolic mission (understanding apostolic as it relates to the word apostle: one who is sent out with a purpose) which is to use our strength as a community to be the foundation from which we go forth with the conviction that those who mourn shall be comforted. And remember, it might be because of your willingness to go forth on behalf of God that the grieving find comfort.
Prayer: Compassionate God, when nothing I say provides meaning to a horrific event, let me listen for you to speak through the apostolic community; let me listen for a word of grace that might be the seed from which healing and redemption grow. Amen.
