Scripture: Psalm 31:9
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye wastes away from grief, my soul and body also.
Thought for the Day: In light the recent darkness that has befallen our community, I was reminded of these words from Henri Nouwen, one of my favorite authors:
The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing…not healing, not curing…that is a friend who cares.
In the prayer vigil we had on Thursday at the church, I spoke about needing and being friends in this time of grief. Too often the pain we feel and the confusion we experience overtake us and we find it difficult to be friends to one another. This allows the darkness to gain a victory. Yet as people of faith, we know a different story that has darkness being defeated. Part of the way we live out our conviction that light wins over darkness is our ability to be a friend and accept friendly support in these difficult times.
Prayer: We are sad, Lord. Our community has known a great tragedy. Be with us, and keep us from allowing the darkness to overwhelm and define us. We need each other in moments like this, and it is your spirit that can bind us together and allow healing to begin. Amen.

These words spoken by you this week about friendship and helping one another during difficult times are so beautiful and appropo. Thank you so much for your caring, warm spirit during these times. We all at some time have the need for such support. You have been blessed with this wonderful talent and Tom and I are especially grateful for you.
