Scripture: 2nd Samuel 6:16
As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.
Thought for the Day: I was never much of a dancer, but I loved to get out on the dance floor and have a good time. Maybe that’s the reason I have always appreciated Mikhail Baryshnikov who said, “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.” Dance has become a competition on TV, but its origin is rooted in religious expression. The joy an individual experiences while in the presence of the holy finds expression in movement. It was never intended to be rated or scored. It was a irrepressible response, and when others witnessed the exuberant movement, they wanted to know the origin of the dance. The only answer was to invite these others into an experience of the holy. Now I’m not suggesting we dance in the aisle next Sunday, but there have been Easter Sundays when someone has enthusiastically shouted during the Call to Worship, “Alleluia! Christ is Risen!!” and I didn’t even see a twitch from the audience. It’s okay to show your fellow worshipers that your faith excites you…and then maybe show that same enthusiasm to your neighbor who is seeking.
Prayer: O Lord of the Dance, draw me and all of creation into an experience of your love that resinates from my head to my toes. Amen.
