Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 6:17 (the Message)
So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,” says God. “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself.
Thought for the Day: Last night, I was ironing a pair of pants to wear this morning. I must confess that I was a bit tired, but after ironing for close to five minutes, I realized the iron was not hot. I flipped a few buttons on the iron, but nothing changed. For a moment, I stood their a bit baffled. Then I glanced down the cord toward the wall…it was there that I discovered the problem. I had not taken the time to plug the iron into the outlet. The wrinkles really do disappear much more quickly when the iron is warm, and for that to happen, it needs to be connect to the source of power. When Paul speaks on behalf of God, “I want you all for myself”, an interesting word is being used (In the NRSV translates it as: ‘welcome you’). In the original Greek, it is: eisdechomai. The root word is: dechomai-to take by the hand. God desires to receive us, and God does so by connecting with us. If we desire to leave behind “the corruption and compromise”, we cannot be connected to that which pollutes us. Instead, we need to plug ourselves into the source of Divine power through which we find what is needed to live the lives God intended us to live.
Question for you: Are plugged into God this morning?
Prayer: By your grace, O Loving Lord, reach out to me anew so that I can once again draw upon your gifts and find the needed strength to live in the ways of Jesus. Amen.
