Scripture: Leviticus 23:22
When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edges of your fields, or gather the gleaning of your harvest; you shall leave them for the poor and for the alien: I am the Lord your God.
Thought for the Day: So often we live our lives to the edge and beyond. We extend ourselves past what we have which leaves zilch for those who have nothing. The book of Leviticus is often ignored because people assume the rules and regulations are no longer relevant, but there is much in Leviticus that we should take seriously. Knowing our limits and staying well inside those limits is good financial policy in a time of high consumer debt, but it also makes room for generosity and compassion for those who have nothing. On this Labor Day, let us be mindful of those who are currently not working.
Prayer: Good God, may what I have never be viewed as all I have. Provide me a faith that perceives the abundance available for my sisters and brothers in need. Amen.
