Scripture: Luke 14:21
So the slave returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his slave, “Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’
Thought for the Day: In his recent interview, Pope Francis caught the attention of many with his simple yet challenging faith. Among the many issues he commented on, he spoke about nuns. He said, “I am alive because of one of them. When I went through my lung disease at the hospital, the doctor gave me penicillin and streptomycin in certain doses. The sister who was on duty tripled my doses because she was daringly astute; she knew what to do because she was with ill people all day. The doctor, who really was a good one, lived in his laboratory; the sister lived on the frontier and was in dialogue with it every day.” How often does the church act like a doctor when the world needs a nun who is “daringly astute” because she is one who is constantly engaged with the realities of human life?
Prayer: Encourage us, Living Lord, to be those who leave the well-protected ivory towers and work with those who are in the greatest of need. Amen.
