Scripture: Psalm 99:9
Extol the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy.
Thought for the Day: The mountain was a powerful symbol, and it was often stated that one must go to the mountain to worship. Was that because God hung out only on the mountain? Was this where heaven and earth overlapped, and humanity could experience the holy like no other location? There is no question that some people might say so, but I think the declaration of the mountain as holy is because of the historical happenings upon the mountain. As previous travelers have encountered God on those high and holy places, it heightens the expectation and awareness of people who venture there. But God is not confined to the mountain or even places designated as special or holy. Know that God can be worshiped, celebrated, praised and encountered on mountain or valley, inside or outside, city or country, sanctuary or street corner…because our God is the God of all creation.
Prayer: Lord, help condition my spiritual sense so I am more aware of your eternal presence found throughout the finite world. Amen.

We all have internal peaks and valleys. Yes, even in the midst of our struggles we can praise and worship him. In fact, isn’t it our praise and worship that summons the power of God to lift us out of our valley? His steadfast love is mighty in all places and for all times!
Yep! We too often think we need to travel to some distant destination before we can call upon God, yet the Jesus story gives us insight into a God who is Emmanuel, God with us.
