Scripture: Psalm 20:3-4
May the Lord remember all your offerings, and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices. May he grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your plans.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday afternoon the SW Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) ventured into new territory with a Regional Assembly by video. The main event was held in Fort Worth, but it was streamed into 25 churches throughout our Region. A couple of us from Cypress Creek Christian Church attended the gathering at Memorial Drive Christian Church, and to be completely honest, it was a bomb…not ‘the bomb’. The streaming didn’t work at all, and after watching the video start and stop for an hour, we gave up, took up an offering, had communion, and called it a day. I’m not blaming anyone. In fact, I’m rather thankful that our church didn’t host it. Now according to the Psalm, it appears we didn’t make enough offerings or burnt sacrifices. That’s definitely the conclusion some have made in moments like this, and even in today’s world. people try to find direct correlations between a failed plan and not enough proper religion. Let me suggest that our failures should not be blamed on an improperly appeased God. Maybe it is a lack of planning in regard to our Regional Assembly snafu. It could have been a poor internet connection. Or possibly, something within the technology that was simply unforeseen. At the end of the day, I picture God shrugging the divine shoulders and saying, “Don’t blame me!”
Prayer: God, help me take responsibility when I’m to blame and understand that you’re not to blame when explanations cannot be easily found. Amen.
