Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Isaiah 14:4
I will heal their disloyalty; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned from them.

Thought for the Day: The Prophets often spoke against the sinful and unjust ways people acted, and though they invited people to repent, the people rarely did what they are invited to do. In the end, people and nations suffered the consequences of their choices. Yet in the distress and suffering brought on by their unrighteous choices, God does not abandon them. Oh sure, the people might have felt as if they were abandoned. I can even remember as a child, when receiving the consequences of my bad decisions, it often felt as if the world – even God – had renounced and disowned me. Part of that is our own grief and guilt, for in the end, God remains faithful. God might have been angry or disappointed, but God is free to love us nonetheless. And God heals our disloyal and destructive behavior.  Thanks be to God!

Prayer: Thank you, Lord for being constant and consistent in your love. Even when I’m unable to perceive your presence because the consequences of my actions have impaired me, you remain. Your love is at work to redeem and heal me. Thank you! Amen.
