Scripture: Romans 10:20-21
Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”
Thought for the Day: Lillian Smith witnessed the Civil Rights movement from the front row of rural Georgia, and she wasn’t afraid to speak forcefully about the need for radical change. In an article entitled, “Behind the Sit-ins,” she talked about the young people who were coming together in the movement for social change. In an imagined conversation between two students, Smith wrote, “…because we are human, we have moral and intellectual potentialities; we can create our future; we don’t have to be prisoners of our grandfather’s past. We who are young can free ourselves…all of us are crippled by segregation; all of us have lost our freedoms.” I think of these young students who dared to dream God’s dream, and then had the courage to embody the dream. Just yesterday we celebrated All Saints’ Sunday, and it makes me think of all those who at critical times dared to live the dreams God was putting within them.
Prayer: May I know the boldness of the saints, O Lord, for it was their faithfulness that demonstrated your Gospel. Amen.
