Scripture: Luke 17:15-16
Then one of the lepers, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan.
Thought for the Day: To prostrate (or to lower oneself in humility) is a sign of deep gratitude, and for the leper, it was the only way he could express his feelings of thankfulness. Though we may not meet Jesus face to face, we meet him in the body of Christ (our fellow Christians). The question for us is how do we express our gratitude when the body of Christ shows us grace. I don’t think we should prostrate ourselves before our friends at church even when they do something amazing for us. The word prostrate in the original Greek of the New Testament literally means to move from a higher place to a lower place. Maybe the best way of showing our gratitude to those who have shown us grace is to humble ourselves through selfless acts of love and service toward others. That’s what grace really is.
Prayer: O God, in Christ Jesus you showed us the transformative power of humble service. As part of the body of Christ, may I demonstrate it for others as an expression of my gratitude. Amen.
