Scripture: Psalm 31:7-10
I will rejoice and be glad for thy steadfast love, because thou hast seen my affliction, thou hast taken heed of my adversities, and hast not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; thou hast set my feet in a broad place. Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief, my soul and my body also. For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my misery, and my bones waste away.
Thought for the Day: Have you ever ached for someone else? You could see in the face and in the demeanor of the individual a heaviness of sorrow that creates a downward pull, not only upon the one suffering, but upon those who witnessed it. Like a gravitational force, you can physically feel the weight and drag of the sadness. When such grief and sorrow hang upon the life of another, our best intended words of solace will often be swallowed in what must feel for the sorrowful as a dark abyss. In those moments, God’s love (the eternal and uncompromising mercy and kindness of God) is the only thing capable of drawing the individual from his/her lostness and setting him/her “feet in a broad place.”
Prayer: Wherever you can use me, Mighty God, do so. Though my words may fall short, provide me words that point to you and your far-reaching love that will draw us all from the darkness of despair. Amen.
