Scripture: Malachi 2:10
Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?
Thought for the Day: On this day in 1956, the Supreme Court declared that Alabama’s law requiring segregated buses was illegal. It was a milestone in the Civil Right’s Movement, yet it was only one step in the long journey toward equality – a journey we continue to travel even this day. For someone who didn’t live in that time, it is difficult for me to imagine the justification of the hate that occurred. At the same time, I wonder how my son will look back 50 or 60 years from now. What will he have a difficult time understanding? What is it that we justify today that our children or grandchildren will see as hate? Let us continually seek God’s assistance as we move along this lengthy journey toward equality. Let us continually claim as Malachi did so many years ago: We all have one God and Father of us all! And let us continue to live what those words imply.
Prayer: You have created all of us, Heavenly Father, and your love is given to all of us. Let us learn how to better respect and honor your beautiful image that resides in every human being. Amen.
