Scripture: Colossians 3:12-15
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.
Thought for the Day: I heard a young person pray a prayer that concluded with the words, “And I thank you for all that I have.” Such a statement is usually the catch-all phrase to make sure we didn’t leave anything out, but I would suggest that I’m not thankful for all that I have. In fact, I’ve purchased a lot of junk over the years that had no good purpose. I have items that have never been used for their designed purpose. Some stuff has become more of a hassle than a help. I think the Apostle Paul reminds us of the many things for which we should be thankful, and in doing so, we are also taught about those things for which confession is the more appropriate response.
Prayer: God, let gratitude never become a means of ignoring the poor choices I have made. There is much you have given, and for that I’m thankful, but there remains plenty of things for which I should confess as they are not of you…nor do they honor you. Amen.
