Scripture: Luke 1:46-48
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
Thought for the Day: Mary’s song reminds us of how God sees each person, not on some wide scale of worthiness and unworthiness, but as full of value and beauty. Charles Dickens wrote the following: “I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.” Take the time to see every human being – the guy who took your order at the drive thru; the woman whose child wouldn’t stop crying as you tried to read at the library; the person who bumped into you without offering even a simple apology; the guys who picked up your trash last week and every week – as marvelous gifts of God. When you do, you are beginning to see the world as God sees it.
Prayer: O God of all creation, provide me with divine vision so I can see value and beauty of all those with whom I travel. Amen.
