Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 88:13
But I, O Lord, cry out to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you.

Thought for the Day: I believe that for most of us, Abraham Lincoln is a symbol of humility and authenticity.  Though not a perfect man, he appears to have been a genuine person trying his best to live a life worthy of his calling. In reflecting on his own life, he said:

I have been driven many times to my knees
by the overwhelming conviction
that I had absolutely no other place to go.

In a world where a request for help is seen as weakness, people feel uneasy about seeking God’s help through prayer.  Yet when I read these words from Abraham Lincoln, I do not think of them in terms of weakness. The sincerity of those words is a sign of strength in weakness. Said in another way, if people do not know what to do, but choose to hide their uncertainty, is that real strength? Or is it conceit that will eventually lead to failure?

This Wednesday’s Prayer Launch Study will be entitled: Intercessory Prayer—Sharing the Weight of the Burdens.  I hope you’ll be able to join me in this conversation at either Noon or 6:30pm.

Prayer: O Lord, I cry out to you in the belief that my words are never lost. You are ever-present to me, and my insecurities and uncertainties find a strong partner in prayer. Amen.
