Scripture: Ruth 3:3-4 You should bathe, put on some perfume, wear nice clothes, and then go down to the threshing floor. Don’t make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. When he lies down, notice the place where he is lying. Then go, uncover his feet, and lie down. And he will tell you what to do. Thought for the Day: With a
Prayer for the Week: We wish for a world that is healthy, where no one must know the suffering brought about by disease. We wish for a world that knows peace, where no one fears violence. We wish for a world that lives compassion, where no one is left by themselves. We wish for a world that looks different than the one we currently see, but there remains
Scripture: Judges 3:24 After Ehud had slipped out, the king’s servants came and found that the room’s doors were locked. So they thought, He must be relieving himself in the cool chamber. Thought for the Day: Ehud has just killed the Moabite King by plunging a sword into his belly. The description appears to resemble something you might see in a teen horror-flick. Ehud had gotten himself alone
Scripture: Number 22:28 Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you that you’ve beaten me these three times?” Thought for the Day: There are way too many jokes about the donkey (the ass) speaking to Balaam, but if you wish, you can find a few by doing a quick search on the internet. Did God speak through donkeys
Scripture: 2 Kings 2:23-24 Elisha went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up the road, some young people came out of the city. They mocked him: “Get going, Baldy! Get going, Baldy!” Turning around, Elisha looked at them and cursed them in the LORD’s name. Then two bears came out of the woods and mangled forty-two of the youths. Thought for the Day: I know
Scripture: Ephesians 5:18 Don’t get drunk on wine, which produces depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit in the following ways… Thought for the Day: I chose not to jump to the next few verses of scripture where Paul offers us examples of how to be filled with the Spirit because I wanted to focus on not getting drunk. As many of you have heard me say, I
Scripture: Ephesians 5:15-17 So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly. Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times. Because of this, don’t be ignorant, but understand the Lord’s will. Thought for the Day: There are so many quotes from Abraham Lincoln that I enjoy, but one that might need to be heard by us today is: I am a slow walker, but I
Scripture: Psalm 82:3-4 Give justice to the lowly and the orphan; maintain the right of the poor and the destitute! Rescue the lowly and the needy. Deliver them from the power of the wicked! Thought for the Day: Have you been glued to the news about the twelve boys and their coach in Thailand? I had been flipping to a news website about every hour to see if
Prayer for the Week: There is so much despair in this world, O God of Mercy, and so much of it is rooted in hopelessness and loneliness. In the crowded city in which we live, there is so little of the connectedness you desire for us. You created us to be in relationship with you and with those around us, yet despite our close proximity to one another,
Scripture: Romans 12:2 Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature. Thought for the Day: I know it is my opinion, but I believe this is one of the most important things the Apostle Paul wrote. I like the Common English Translation,
