Scripture: Romans 5:6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Thought for the Day: Tullian Tchividjian is an interesting minister with a bit of a turbulent past. The grandson of Billy Graham, Tchividjian has faced great criticism after divorcing his wife. With that said, he wrote: The Gospel alone liberates you to live a life of scandalous generosity, unrestrained sacrifice,
Scripture: Psalm 16:5 (the Message) My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I’m your choice! Thought for the Day: In a conversation he was having with Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore said, “…we have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy.” The choice to follow God is not an easy one even though there are many who describe
Scripture: Mark 1:1 The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Thought for the Day: About ten years ago, Peter Gomes wrote a book entitled, The Scandalous Gospel of Jesus: What’s so Good about the Good News? I found the book challenging and insightful, but I was strangely drawn again and again to the subtitle of the book: “What’s so Good about the
Scripture: Luke 12:15 And Jesus said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Thought for the Day: The movie, Veggietale: Madame Blueberry, is a story of a distraught blueberry who is not content with what she has. She has pictures on her wall of all her neighbor’s stuff that she covets.
Scripture: Daniel 6:10 Although Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he continued to go to his house, which had windows in its upper room open toward Jerusalem, and to get down on his knees three times a day to pray to his God and praise him, just as he had done previously. Thought for the Day: Some unkind people were trying to get Daniel in trouble,
From Rev. Norma Lowrey Scripture: Matthew 16:6-9 “Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread? Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you
~Writen by Ange & Bob Aghamalian God does not call us to be successful, but rather He calls us to be faithful. Faithful to Christ’s command to Love God with all our heart, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. When we do this, we will be living a life of abundance. Abundant in all that really matters: happiness, peace, faith, hope and most
Scripture: Matthew 6:2-4 “So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done
Scripture: Psalm 104:24-25 O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. Thought for the Day: Today is the day that the Lord has made! It is our third annual Blessing of the Animals and Stuffed Animals. I
Scripture: Psalm 25:4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Thought for the Day: Back in 2008, Brian McLaren wrote the book, A New Kind of Christian. In the book he offers us some wonderfully challenging words that appear to fit in our discussion around Jesus Apprentice. He writes, For Christ, his “called ones” (which is what the Greek term for “church” really
