Scripture: Psalm 9:1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. Thought for the Day: William Ward, an English missionary, once said: “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say ‘thank you?’” Most every one of us has numerous things for which we should be thankful. Whether we are offering
Scripture: Ephesians 1:15-16 I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. Thought for the Day: In a world where most of the news we hear is associated with bad behavior or mean-spiritedness, hate or greed, it would be nice
Scripture: Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Thought for the Day: To neglect something could mean that we did so intentionally or unintentionally. We could do so deliberately or inadvertently. To do so accidentally sounds better than on purpose, but the result is still the same. When we read the words, “do not
Scripture: Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Thought for the Day: Our denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), has as its mission: To be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving
Scripture: John 14:16 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. Thought for the Day: I’ve heard a number of people tell the following quip: I went to a bookstore today. I asked the woman behind the counter where the self-help section was. She said, “If I told you,
Scripture: Romans 5:11 But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Thought for the Day: Malcolm Fraser said, “Reconciliation requires changes of heart and spirit, as well as social and economic change. Scripture: Acts 8:20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God’s gift with money!” Thought for the Day: On Stardate 3198.4, Spock offers an insightful thought: “Curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.” This quote might make me sound like a Star Trek Geek, but the character played by Leonard Nimoy
Scripture: Ezekiel 18:5 (the Message) “Imagine a person who lives well, treating others fairly, keeping good relationships…” Thought for the Day: One of my all time favorite movie characters is Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster in the Harry Potter series. There are many memorable quotes assigned to him, but one of my favorites is, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.”
Scripture: Hebrews 2:15 …and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death. Thought for the Day: William Sloane Coffin said, “If your heart is full of fear, you won’t seek truth; you’ll seek security. If a heart is full of love, it will have a limbering effect on the mind.” One of the biggest mistakes in American Christianity is to assume
Scripture: Psalm 20:3-4 May the Lord remember all your offerings, and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices. May he grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your plans. Thought for the Day: Yesterday afternoon the SW Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) ventured into new territory with a Regional Assembly by video. The main event was held in Fort Worth, but it was streamed into
